Quarantine in Mexico

By Camila Venegas

During this quarantine I’ve been stuck in Mexico. I am currently in Naco, Sonora. It’s a small town right by  Agua Prieta and Canannea; also it’s a cross border town so there’s Naco and Bisbee, AZ. The borders are starting to close and are only open from 6 am to 10 pm every day. Only US citizens can cross- people with visas are not allowed to cross. Here in Mexico, we also are in quarantine (cuarentena); on Monday they passed a new rule in the whole state of Sonora stating that people are only able to leave or go out for specific needs such as going to the groceries or going to the pharmacy. There is also only supposed to be 1 prison per car no more than one and if you are out you must have a face mask and gloves on but since many people where not listening they’ve extended quarantine till May 30.

Since I’ve been here, I’ve been doing my school work being stuck at home with my family members.  I’ve also been visiting my family ranch a little more than usual. Since we’ve been in quarantine my family and I have been playing lotería every night but we play with money so every time we play  we have to pay 3 pesos and whoever wins takes all the money that was put in the center.
